It’s the question on every family’s mind once they’re approved: How many hours of care will we actually receive?<\/em> The honest answer is that there’s no flat number \u2014 DDD care hours are based on your loved one’s assessed needs<\/strong>, not a fixed allotment. Here’s how the process works and what shapes the number you’re authorized.<\/p>\n

Please note:<\/strong> Arizona has been actively revising how care hours for minor children are assessed. The general process below still applies, but the specific assessment tool and rules have been in flux. Hours Are Based on Need, Not a Set Amount<\/h2>\n

DDD uses a person-centered<\/strong> approach. Rather than handing everyone the same number of hours, the program looks at what each individual actually needs to be safe, healthy, and supported at home. Two people with the same diagnosis can be authorized for very different amounts of care, because their needs differ.<\/p>\n

This is determined through an assessment your Support Coordinator<\/strong> completes with your family, which then shapes your Person-Centered Service Plan (PCSP)<\/strong> \u2014 the document that authorizes your services.<\/p>\n

How the Assessment Works<\/h2>\n

The process generally looks like this:<\/p>\n

  1. Your Support Coordinator meets with you and your loved one.<\/strong> They gather information about daily needs, often through interview and observation.<\/li>\n
  2. An assessment tool is used<\/strong> to help translate those needs into service hours for things like Attendant Care, Habilitation, and Homemaker services.<\/li>\n
  3. Your planning team develops the service plan.<\/strong> You’re part of this team \u2014 your input matters.<\/li>\n
  4. Hours are authorized<\/strong> in your PCSP, and services can begin.<\/li>\n
  5. The plan is reviewed regularly<\/strong>, and hours can be adjusted if needs change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Once ALTCS-approved, members complete a full person-centered service plan with their Support Coordinator and team each year, with additional reviews as needed.<\/p>\n
